From R.J. (Rob) Lambert (F 85-91) to Will Winzor:

“I'm so chuffed that you've commissioned a bench for your dad, and I would utterly love to be able to come to this, but I'm afraid family commitments mean that I just won't be able to make it.

However, I just wanted to get in touch to say what an amazing man your dad was. He taught me physics up to A-level at St Bees, together with excellent coaching in squash, rugby, and careers advice. I've no doubt you hear this a lot, but he was far and away the best teacher I ever had, and it's impossible to overstate the way in which he shaped my life. Due almost entirely to his teaching and encouragement I went on to study engineering and later medicine, and I - and my family - owe him an awful lot. I was very sorry to hear of his passing at the time, but hope you realise that his legacy lives on in the many hundreds of former pupils whose lives he made better.
I'm so sorry I can't make it to the get-together this weekend, but I shall make it my mission to visit the bench when I can.”
